About Us
Welcome to Hunts Performance Academy
Welcome to Hunts Performance Academy, home of Tavistock and Launceston Taekwondo.
Led by Mr. Dan Hunt and Mrs. Anna Hunt, our clubs are built on the core values of respect, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit — the very Tenets of Taekwondo.
We pride ourselves on providing a friendly, inclusive, and professional training environment where students of all ages and abilities can develop confidence, fitness, and martial arts skill. Whether your goal is fitness, self-defence, or competition success, our family-oriented approach ensures everyone feels welcome and supported from their very first class.
Our Journey
Tavistock Taekwondo was formed in May 2007 and has gone from strength to strength ever since.
Originally under Mr. Paine’s instruction, the club opened its doors at Tavistock College. Two of the very first students to join were Mr. Dan Hunt and Mrs. Anna Hunt, who are now the club’s proud instructors.
From Students to Instructors
Mr. Hunt had previously trained in Taekwondo back in 1996, when another club was active in Tavistock. Unfortunately, that club closed, but when the new one opened years later, he was delighted to return. Having tried other martial arts in the meantime, nothing compared to the family spirit and structure of Taekwon-Do.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Hunt restarted as White Belts, grading at every opportunity and earning A passes and grading awards along the way. Through hard work and dedication, they achieved their Black Belts together — a huge personal and shared milestone.
Interestingly, Mrs. Hunt originally joined just to keep Mr. Hunt company — but quickly discovered her own love for the art, discipline, and community that Taekwondo brings.
Building a Legacy
Mr. Hunt went on to achieve his dream of becoming a Taekwondo Instructor, made even more special by being able to do so at Tavistock Taekwondo — the very place where his martial arts journey had restarted.
With over 25 years of martial arts experience, Mr. Hunt continues to bring energy, passion, and knowledge to every class.
Since opening, the club has produced multiple Local, National, and World Champions and Medalists across Patterns, Sparring, and Destruction categories.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Hunt are now proud 4th Degree Black Belts, currently working towards their 5th Degree. They are BMABA-qualified instructors, Level 3 First Aid trained, and Enhanced DBS checked.
Expanding Our Reach
In March 2020, Mr. Hunt also took on Launceston Taekwondo, a club originally founded in 1996.
However, just as he was about to teach his first session, the COVID-19 lockdown began. Drawing on the Tenets of Taekwondo, training continued online via Zoom, often in living rooms — dodging children, parents, and pets! When restrictions lifted, classes moved outdoors in all weather conditions until it was safe to return to the dojang.
Despite the challenges, both clubs bounced back stronger than ever — growing from around 40 students to now over 70 active members between Tavistock and Launceston, and still expanding.
